Himno acróstico de alabanza. A la acción de gracias (1-3), sigue el cuerpo del himno (4-9), que finaliza con una máxima sapiencial (10). El poeta insiste en las obras del Señor, cuya grandeza se esfuerza en dimensionar (2). Su intención es proclamarlas ante la comunidad reunida (1). Las obras son ponderadas (2), esplendorosas, majestuosas (3), duraderas (3b)... Son una manifestación del amor compasivo de Dios, y, por ello un memorial que nos remite a ese amor (4). El don de la tierra (6), el alimento diario (5), los preceptos (7b-8), el rescate del pueblo y la ratificación de la alianza (9) son obras concretas de Dios. Todas ellas suscitan la alabanza (1) y conducen al reconocimiento del nombre divino (9b). Lucas cita el versículo 9c en el Magnificat (1,49) y el versículo 9a en el Benedictus (1,68). Alabar a Dios por todo es la palabra última de la creación, el «aleluya» final, al que unimos nuestra voz cuando oramos con este salmo: «La alabanza del Señor permanezca para siempre».
