Último encuentro de David y Saúl. La narración retorna a Saúl, que sigue persiguiendo a David. David espía el campamento de Saúl. Aprovechando la oscuridad, junto a Abisay penetra en el campamento y se plantan ante Saúl mientras éste duerme. Abisay desea matar a Saúl con un solo golpe de su espada (8), pero David no se lo permite, se conforma con la espada y la cantimplora que están a la cabecera del rey y se marcha. Desde la otra parte del valle, David hace sentir su voz acusando a Abner, general de Saúl, de incompetencia en la custodia del rey, y su voz es reconocida por Saúl. Como antes, Saúl responde con una llamativa confesión: «¡He pecado... He sido un necio, me he equivocado totalmente» (21). David confía su propia vida a la protección del Señor. Saúl lo bendice y le desea éxito. Al final de la escena, se separan siguiendo cada cual su propio camino. Se subraya en esta escena la confianza de David en Dios. Una vez más David ha vencido a Saúl y a su incompetente ejército. Saúl va por el mal camino. David pone su confianza en Dios y consigue de Saúl su promesa y bendición.
