Himno a la grandeza divina con su invitación hímnica (1-4), cuerpo del himno (5-18) y conclusión (19-21). El cuerpo del himno tiene tres estrofas: el Creador (5-7), el Redentor (8-14), el Viviente (15-18). Los sacerdotes, como en el salmo anterior, son los encargados de entonar la alabanza (1s). La bondad divina, el renombre de Dios, la elección del pueblo (Jacob e Israel) y la donación de la tierra son los motivos para alabar al Señor (3s). Los tres ámbitos de la creación: cielo, tierra y abismo, son obra suya (5), como en sus manos está el gobierno del universo (7). Es el Señor de la historia, sintetizada en cuatro verbos: «hirió..., envió... hirió... entregó» (8.9.10.12). Así fue como el Señor hizo justicia a su pueblo y se compadeció de sus siervos (14). Los dioses no existen (5.15-18; cfr. 115,4-8). Son nuevos motivos para bendecir al Señor. Termina el salmo como comenzó, invitando a los sacerdotes (aarónidas y levitas) a que bendigan al Señor, el morador de Jerusalén (19-21). Dios nos muestra su bondad cada día, nos da a conocer su Nombre. Por ello podemos continuar la bendición, iniciada en el Templo de Jerusalén, orando con este salmo.
